Feeding

The base
-The dog is CARNIVORE.
-Its teeth are made to shred meat and its digestive system to digest it. – Certain breeds seem to like other types of food and it is, partly, because of the lack of nutrients of their basic food. -   NO prepared food, sold on the market, is complete. -   the puppy needs more proteins than the adult. Choose a food especially conceived for the puppies. – During the health guarantee, do not change the food brand which it eats. So, if a health problem occurred, it will be easier to cure it. – You can change the food brand by introducing gradually the new one at;
Day 1) 1/4 of the new one for 3/4 of the old.
Day 3) 2/4 of the new one for 2/4 of the old.
Day 5) 3/4 of the new one for 1/4 of the old.
Day 7) 100% the new one (you can introduce the balance of the old one by small part at the time)

Dry food
- Perfect for the basic food, easy to preserve
- The best way to buy dry food is to check the INGREDIENTS. The first 5 ingredients are enough to know 95% of the contents. They are entered by order of volume. The first ingredient must always be meat. For the pup, the chicken is the best choice since this meat is the best digestible one.
- the by-products are not necessarily bad but must never give an ash content beyond 8%. If you can not find the ash rate on packing, it is because the company does not have interest to mention it. Choose another brand.
- the preservatives are necessary in the dry food formulas. Seek for “natural” agents like E vitamin or tocopherol (kind of E vitamin).

Soft food
- It is almost 100% meat so it is perfect for small collations. I recommend it 1 to 2 times per day, at a rate of 1/4 of the total quantity of food offered per day.
- Just like dry food, the first 5 ingredients are enough to know 95% of the contents.

Feeding and beverage time
- the pup has a very fast digestion. It will make its poop between 10 to 20 minutes after the meals or beverage.
- A pup which breathing quickly is probably thirsty. Offer water.

For the full time present owners :
- Give frequent meals, at a rate of 4 meals per day for a pup between 7 and 10 weeks old, 3 meals from 11 to 20 weeks old, 2 meals from 21 to 32 weeks old and, finally, 1 meal beyond.
- Give water at the deman of the pup or each hour.
- Let the pup drink or eat as much as it can and/or wants, 10 minutes at the same time. This will enable you to ration its meals and have a control immediately on its poop time.

For the partly or full time absent owners :
- Leave water and food in any time during your absence. – Give a meal every 4 hours, until sleeping, during your presence. – the days off, use the present owners method.
